- Cult performer enjoys growing popularity on the Canadian campus scene -
Montreal, Quebec, Sept 15, 2002 (CPP) - '(It's all so) Groovy', a 1969 pop music hit for singer/songwriter Dusty Carr, is currently being hailed by a new generation of Canadian listeners, climbing to number 193 on the 'Earshot Top 200 List', published by the National Campus and Community Radio Association.

"The response to this song has just been unbelievable," said Bryce Richards, programming director of CGRE Radio - McGill University. "What's really strange is that you can't buy it anywhere. We had to download the mp3 from Carr's Web site. Our station is swamped with callers requesting 'Groovy'. I predict it's going to hit number one before the holiday season begins."
Campus disc jockeys from across Canada have roundly reported 'Groovy' to be among the most requested songs of 2002.
Dusty Carr, as well known for his violent, hard-driving lifestyle as for his musical accomplishments, said he wasn't surprised by the song's success. "Once a great song, always a great song," he commented. "What really pleases me is that the university kids dig it. Those people are always miles ahead of the fat-ass crowd."
Carr said that he wants to re-issue the original 'Groovy', but the master tapes cannot be found. "It's possible the masters got torched in a trailer park fire in the Chihuahuan desert in West Texas back in '74. But who cares, I can always cut it again."
Carr said he plans to tour Canadian campuses this fall, beginning at the University of Toronto. "People tell me to stay away from Canada, that you need a license to take a piss up there, but it gives me a good chance to escape from the States for a while and shake off a few pinheads who claim I owe them money, which is totally, completely untrue, I think."
'(It's All So) Groovy' was originally recorded as part of the Jefferson Airplane's 1968 release, 'Streaming Lights and Cartoon Faces: Live At The Fillmore'. Dusty Carr released the song as a single the following year and it achieved a position of number 18 on the Billboard charts.
