Los Angeles, CA, June 13, 2002 (LP) -

"I just can't stand the pain anymore," said a clearly shaken Diana Ross on the eve of an international summer tour. "I was married briefly, many years ago, to an awful man, and the torment has finally driven me to drink. Now is the time to get it right."

During what was scheduled to be an upbeat press party to discuss her career and upcoming CD release, Ross wept constantly while recalling a 1966 marriage to cult performer Dusty Carr. "We were married in June in Las Vegas at about four o'clock in the morning. I felt a lot more fear than love. Dusty was so dangerous, so outrageous that he had a hypnotic effect on people. Everybody wanted to be with him. When my head finally cleared I just felt sick. It was all a terrible insanity and I raced back to Detroit."

Dusty Carr responded to Ross' comments from the set of 'A Homage to John Davidson', a one-hour video tribute to the eternally boyish singer. "I'd forgotten about that marriage," said Carr. "No big whup. Diana was always too skinny for my taste, and more hyper than a prairie dog on methamphetamine. Anyway, why take crap like that so seriously? As for her drug problems, like I said to my old pal Brian Wilson, you've got to know how to pace yourself baby. Any good race horse will tell you that."

Ross said she was always horrified that Carr might resurface in her life at any time. "Do you know what that feeling is like?" she screamed at the increasingly embarrassed journalists. "You all know Dusty. You only hear the good things. I've seen him smash a waiter senseless with base of a telephone. I've seen him vomit on a buffet table and then try to blame a helpless child. He's incredibly twisted."

In anticipation of a rigorous touring schedule, Ross said she wanted to clear her head of any 'physic garbage' that could impede her energy level. "Let me tell you," she explained, "Dusty Carr is definitely on top of that heap."

An unrepentant Carr said that he might surprise Ross with a backstage visit when she tours through Las Vegas. "If I'm in the mood, I might drop in to say hello. Technically I think we might be still married, but sweet Jesus I hope not! Look, she better be nice to me or I'll rain down Hell's fire with a few sweet confessions of my own."

Ross' 'Return to Love' tour is scheduled to begin tomorrow in Philadelphia.
