Los Angeles, California, June 10, 2004 (API) – PolyDisc Music, citing a growing interest in the varied career of singer Dusty Carr, today announced the release of ‘Dusty Carr: Live in Paris ‘68’, his much-bootlegged performance at Le Lido nightclub.

“Everybody knows this is a classic of its genre,” said Herb James, PolyDisc’s vice president of marketing. “It’s up there with Dylan’s performance at the Royal Albert Hall and the Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl. Over the years, I’ve heard a lot of different versions of this material, mostly of poor quality. We digitized the original tapes and cleaned up the sound. We have already received advanced orders for 200,000 units.”

Carr’s ‘Live in Paris’ performance was recorded during the evening of March 22, 1968. During his opening monologue, drunk and spurred by hecklers, Carr lambasted France, describing the country as “full of beautiful women but really ugly men.” He said that compared to their American counterparts, French students were “sickly, cowardly and boring.” Carr told the crowd to “go out a smash a few windows.” A number of student activists in the audience followed Carr’s advice. So began the famous Paris students riots of 1968, known as ‘The Events of May’.

Today, during a telephone interview, Carr said that the Paris of the late 1960s was a powder keg waiting to explode. “Basically, even French people find French people irritating. What happened is that young French people, driven crazy by irritation and each other, decided kick some ass. It wasn’t some big political thing, just a whole bunch of really pissed off young people. They didn’t have enough drugs to calm them down, and wine makes for a bad drunk. It can actually shrink your stomach, and who needs that.”

Carr remains unapologetic about inciting the riots. “As my old pal Joey Ramone used to say, ‘I’m just mouthing here. Don’t take me seriously’, or something damn close to that.”

Polydisk Music will release ‘Dusty Carr: Live in Paris ‘68’ across North America on July 12.
